White Willow

This basket is part of our first ever collection of white willow weavings!

In order to create this special type of material, Dan stands harvested bundles of willow in shallow water for a process known as pitting. Over time, this loosens the layers within the rods, allowing for an easier separation of the bark.

Finally, to peel that top layer, Dan uses a tool called a brake, revealing the white willow within.
